Front strut & coil spring ?

I have a broken front n/s coil spring. Do i have to totally remove the strut assembley , or can i just lower it on a trolley jack & feed the new spring over the top of the shocker ?

the complete strut will have to come off and coil spring compressors used,DO NOT try and do this job without them-dangerous
