How do I get the dirt out of the dirt lifter?

What have you done with your User Guide? If it's the filter in the tank lid, then just take it out briush and rinse.
If it's the filter under the cap with the rotating red rotor, unscrew the red cap, lift out the bits, noting order, and clean the filter. Reassemble. Page 14 of the Guide!
