how do i get my central locking to work?

i have a 2002 astra sxi. the central locking doesnt work the light comes on, on the key fob so i dont think it needs battery. any help

Turn ignition on (dash lights on, dont start engine) and press button on fob. Doors should lock then unlock. Fob should now work as normal.
