first gear is stiff some times to get in?

i have a vw golf 1.9 sdi 02 moste times my golf is stiff to get in first gear.it run s well no noise from the gear box. drives well. can you tell me wot you think it can be . thank you

Look to see if there is an alternative lighter grade gearbox oil suitable for your car.esp if gear selection is okay once engine/gearbox is hot.
