scooter dies?

hi i have just got an jimstar madness 50cc scooter which has been stood for about eighteen months every time i rev it it just cuts out on me the petrol in tank is the old stuff which was in it can anyone plz tell ne what the problem could be thanks for ur help

there is no fuel pump the carb is gravity fed and the fuel tank can be emptied by removing the fuel tap in the bottom of the tank and let all the fuel run out into a suitable container.

petrol no good. empty tank and put new petrol in.if it still dies .then put new spark plug in. and clean carb and jets.
