thanks for all your help so far guys, got the bike revving, only thing is it cuts out now as soon as the engine warms up alittle, i've been told that it could be the cdi or the rectifier or maybe a combination of both, could this be the case or am i just being taken for a tool by the garage??

if you have had all the jets out make sure you have not put the jet that pokes through into the venturi the wrong way up as its possible as i saw my old moron of a boss do it once, the jet is fluted one end and the fluted part needs to be facing upwards it goes above the needle jet which has the main jet screwed into it.also a way to check uf the slide is moving or not is to try running it with the air filter off it and you will see if the slide if lifting properly or not ,if not try lifting it up manually with a thin to see if the problem goes as ted says it may be sa split diaphragm or even a spring that had tilted and jammed in there

think you need to take the top off the carb and have a look at the throttle slide to made sure its not corroded making it stick in the carb, if it is just polish it up with some solvol on a soft cloth. Also check the diaphragm hasn't got holes in, might be worth checking the needle is perfectly straight and is seated in the slide correctly. hope that helps.
