I have a broken down samsung american side/side FF, two years 4 months of age, out of warrantly (typical) Samsung Engineer gave me free assessment, and states the compressor has packed up, £250 repair parts & labour. Does this seem reasonable, can anyone advise. I have tried to get an independent assessment,however my local appliance engineers refuse stating they won't touch samsung FF with a barge pole !!!

Old gas will not be put back.New gas will be weighed in to the system.Price is about right especially IF they are going to put a new compressor on.Difficult decision for you to make.Mend or buy new????.Make your mind up time!
Make sure they give warranty on regas as systems can fail in several months time IF there is a small internal leak in the system pipework.Be warned!!!

I would think it is, First off, they have to remove the refrigerant in the system. fit new compressor, it should then be vacuumed for a time , to get rid of any moisture in the system, Then it has to be regassed, to correct level. They should be able to reuse the refrigerant. Oil also needs to be added, Just looked up the price of a similar type compressor, as I do not have your model No. £132 plus delivery. So with that and all the work. Would not think you would be able to get much cheaper. To do it yourself, Add about £2000 minimum, for the equipment. Then add another £4000-5000 for the training to F-gas cat1, Which you must be by law to work on the refrigerant side of them. I know, I have just done it myself, But I am self employed engineer.
