John Lewis JLWM1402 washing machine stuck on fill?

My four year old John Lewis JLWM1402 washing machine is stuck on fill and the water overflows from the soap drawer. I can switch the machine off but can't drain it. The control panel is unlit. I have had very occasional problems prior to this with it not spinning but on switching to spin only, to finish a load, subsequent sessions were fine. Is this repairable or am I looking at a new machine? Thanks for any advice!

My machine is leaking from the bottom - we have checked the filter but it's clear

What could the problem be?

control panel being unlit sounds terminal and will be very expensive if it has failed

We will check that then, thanks, Bob! Would this make the control panel lights go out then?

Your drain pump is blocked, fairly easy to remove and unblock or replace with a new one for about £20.00.
Look in your manual for the location (or follow your drain tube back to the machine)
