vauxhall zafiria fuel gauge problem?

hi i have a problemwith my fuel gauge on my zafiria 2005 model dtihe 2.0 de the fuel gauge drops to empty a few minuites after i start driving and seems to be worse when the tank is full what could the problem be ?
