I had a Hotpoint and it would not drain or spin. The reason for this was it was blocked.
Firstly you should see a box on the bottom right hand side of the machine - It should be where all you bits of fluff & lint that comes off you clothes end up. If you open this and clean this as much as you possible can then try to drain or spin it.
The job is not a pleasant one or a clean one but it could save you money on a plumber.
