How can I remove broken fuel cap on ford escort van?

The fuel cap on my ford escort van will not unlock. It's been getting stiffer, and now won't budge. I've managed to turn the key around in it's holder-thingy. Any ideas how I can remove the cap to get fuel in and replace it? Cheers!
