my boot on my ford mondeo zetec won't close?

The boot on my Ford Mondeo Zetec tdci suddently decided that it would not close and lock, is this a common problem and how do i fix it

latch may have engaged with boot open.you will need to put key in and turn to open position whilst flicking latch open with a screwdriver or similar,if the latch is floppy when unlocked then the spring on latch mechanism will be broken/adrift.
