Yes it could but you can't just replace it without knowing what damaged it in the first place. It could also be a faulty motor, start capacitor or wiring problem. This model is not actually a F&P made machine even though it says Fisher & Paykel on the panel. They are a cheap dishwasher made by Haier who are part owners of F&P. Motors in them are rubbish and often leak & play up.
