Pipe on Yamaha Aerox 50cc stock exhaust rusted through?

Hi All,

I have a Yamaha Aerox 50cc 08 plate I use to commute. The exhaust system was pretty rusty when i got it and now a little pipe that connects into the exhaust between where it connects to the underside of the bike and the silencer has rusted through and come away. Obviously this means that there is a hole before the silencer so it makes it really loud. I have tried to re attach it using exhaust putty till I can get a new exhaust but it broke away this morning. I have no idea what that little pipe does and a new exhaust system doesn't seem to have any connections for it? Does that mean i could just plug the hole and tuck the pipe away without any harmful effect?

Any help would be great
Thanks

Yes you can blank / patch over , the hole. use a gun gum bandage with strengthening foil or tin plate ...follow instructions on pack. or weld a patch on it

Some research suggests that this is either a cross over or an air intake. It seems to take the exhaust gas and pumps it back through the system?
