i fixed this problem by first slackening the drive belt fully. then pulling the motor with my hands as far forward as it will go then pull the cable up by hand to fully expose the treaded end. remove the small nut. you have to grip cable with pliers whist undoing the nut. then put lots of washers on until only about 4 treads are left showing then replace the nut and bingo away you go.
