light come on dash board?

my fiat punto on a p plate has started smoking a tiny bit and a red light has come on above the temp light can any 1 tell me wat the light means can i drive it

You don't say what symbol is on the light so this is a bit of a guess. If the light gets brighter when you rev the engine it's a slipping fan belt.
