do i need to enter engineers code to dis-connect external bell box and repl?

hello need some advice, have tested bell-box which has a supply present from alarm panel of 12v d.c,the o/s sounder never goes off ,the system is a scantronic 9448+,what is the procedure for changing the bell box over with regards to going into engineers mode or will just entering user code to silence internal sounder be o.k,would really appreciate some advice

regards steve

are you using it on part set by any chance,?the panel may be prog internal sounder only, and nick, most good bell boxes have the mod done intern, all ours have, but to get back to the prob, its easy to test the bell box as alarm guy said,or even just press 1 and 3 together,if the panel has been prog for panic alarm,it will go off.

Could be any number of reasons, dont forget the new rules about bell boxes having a monitored -ve and some needing a diode and a resistor to work. Anyway Steve you wont have 12 vdc at the bell box, it will be about 13.25 allowing for voltage drop on the cable.
What did you test it with? a 12v buzzer or a multimeter.
SD what are you going on about. How would you know there is a jumper inside the bell box, he hasnt told us what make he has,

Is the sounder at fault or the panel?
You did check the bell supply and not the detector supply?
Assuming the bell supply is fine did you link a hard negative to bell and or strobe trigger?
Is the bell cable intact?

To change sounder, panel into engineers. Up ladder, open box, SAB should kick in and sound. Defeat links and swap out.
Be good when old one down to remove fuse, rewire new close down and then fit fuse.

the external would probably go off anyway, even with engineer code. usually a jumper inside to silence it, but if not going off, no problem. when you put new one on, expect a loud noise when you connect it. try some earmuffs to avoid hearing damage
