escort petrol van over heating?

hi, i am a mechanical retard so please bare with me. I have a 1.4 petrol escort van. yesterday the radiator hose blew apart from a connector that was joining it? I replaced the connector and re-filled the radiator water and i think i managed to bleed it, but not sure!! The next day (today) I drove 20 miles to a job with no problems then 4 hours later drove home, that was when i noticed the temp gauge sky rocket, so i stopped to let the van cool down? it seems the radiator fan does not kick in? any suggestions????? many thanks

I would check the thermostat if it is not opening then the water does not flow around the engine and stops the hot water getting to the radiator fan switch to turn it on. If that is ok check the waterpump is circulating the water. Repost if still having problems

check the fan sensor switch, bridge across contacts and if the fan works replace the switch
