Is it the starter or something else?

I have a craftsmen rider (5 years old). Worked fine last summer. This year it just clicks when I try to start it. I replaced the battery, starter solenoid and spark plug. I cleaned the ignition switch and it does "click" but will Not start. Could it be the starter itself or maybe the alternator? And where is the Alternator? I can't even find it! The fuse is Good! Thanks

make sure battery voltage is up, put on a external battery charger if still no good volt meter across battery terminals should only have a2 to 3 volt loss when cranking if more starter could be fault.Motor can be turned by hand? if not then starter pinion could of jammed against ring gear or engine filled up with petrol ,flooded through carburator. No voltage loss across battery, cable from solenoid to starter motor faulty ,check if you have got 12v down at starter cable when cranking

sounds like the starter has stuck, take out the plug and try and turn the engine with the cutting blade (wear gloves ). and you may be able to free it.
(BE VERY CAREFUL)

alternator only works when engine's running! if you hear a click when trying to start it's the starter solenoid and means it's working fine. If battery is good, suspect starter motor/worn brushes possibly.
