how can i fix my gardenline hedge trimmer?

I was cutting my hedge, when it stopped and tripped out the electric. Then when i turned it back on smoke started to come out of it. Can it be repaired?

The smoke should remain trapped within the machine. I'm afraid once it has been alowed to escape, it's only fit for the bin.
