My motor is humming and not running, is it shot?

Hello, I have a Estate by Whirlpool electric dryer. It's about 5 years old and will not start. When I push start it just hums loudly, makes a single pop noise, and does nothing- rinse and repeat every 5 minutes. Sometimes we can smell an electric "burning smell" along with the hum. I took it apart and cleaned it out, noticing very little lint residue. I'm pretty sure it's the motor, but I'm no expert and can't afford to be wrong on that piece. When I run it without the drum, it does not spin, just hums and pops. I even videotaped it, which I can e-mail. What else should I look for? Thank you.
