Thank you so much for the idea, but I have checked and that doesn't seem to be the problem. If i push the door in it clicks, but then clicks back out again immediately.

the latch on the new door catch might be already in the closed position with the door open.you have to pull the catch over in to the open position 1st and then when you shut the door it will lock for you
