VW sharan front wipers only work a bit?

Please please help. my front wipers, when on at the stalk, travel an inch accross the 'screen then stop. then travel an inch across the screen then stop. then another inch then stop....etc. about 2 / 3 seconds between each movement. apparently there is no relay and can't be the fuse as there is power??! many thanks

Bob n Steve thank you very much, I was planning to lift off the wiper arms, fascia etc, to oil the linkages, but I cannot even get the arms off!! the nuts are off, but the arms will not budge, even with a soaking of wd40 and a prybar...now what? thanks again...

watch fingers don't touch any part on or off of likages as some have habit of moving to park they can take finger/s off. If you must poke the link arms use a stick that can be replaced. A tip from our BT garage mechanic many moons ago.

The wiper motor linkages are seized up or the wiper motor spindle is seized up.you have to lube them with wd40 and then put some 3 in 1 oil on everything.sometimes total strip/rebuild required to free them. The motor has a control unit built in and when it over currents (to much load on it) it shuts down.just as a trial lift both wipers up away from the screen and see if they work better.Sometimes reducing the wiper load makes them go which proves the above mentioned issues.Garages charge £200-600 for this issue as they fit new wiper motor and linkages!!
