Engine shakes and knocks on tick over then as you bring the revs up it go's smooth. Is this a dropped vavle or is it the coil pack? The car dosn't smoke. One garage has told me a dropped vavle and the engine is shot and another garage has said its the coil pack.

i had a similar problem with same symptoms, turned out to be a blown head gasket (54000 mile - common fault) is it losing water?, carry out a compression test to determine worst case, DIY it cost 100 quid to fix and that was with a head skim. get it fixed and get rid before it becomes a money pit. good luck

your car is probably running on two cylinders and i bet its the ecu its a common fault with puntos you will also need to change coil packs as they cause the ecu to break by the spark back spiking.i got the coil packs for 12.50 each on ebay and ecu from ecu testing they will cost about 100 pound all simple to fit just alan keys needed a garage will charge about 500 to 600 for this work this happens mostly on the 8v punto
