dishwasher AEG?

Hi, My dishwasher has just been given to me, it sounds like it is working, but no water is entering the machine. I have checked the water inlet which is fine, I have also tryed to fill it up by hand but it just pumps the water out.

I am at a loss, anyone got any ideas. But please remember i am a girl! my other half is terrible at this sort of thing.xx

It sounds like it is stuck trying to empty....so I would assume a float valve is stuck up.(when dishwasher is full of water a float will rise up triggering the pump to switch on before it floods your kitchen, then as water goes down it triggers another switch at the bottom telling it the water has gone and switch off pump) If it has been transported on its side etc,the float may be dislodged....try rocking it from side to side roughly, failing that it needs opened at the bottom to see if u can see the obvious float mechanism. good luck
