I have just test driven a 2005 C3 and the inside has a strange smell. It smells a bit like a really dusty old cupboard crossed with stale smoke. Any ideas what this may be and if it is solvable

is it a 1400 diesel-if so could be injector seals leaking!

I'd bet it has got damp inside and has been driven by a smoker.

Check for evidence of leaks. Check under the carpets for rust - and in the boot. Check the ashtrays have been cleaned out thoroughly.

Check that all the electrics work perfectly.

If you have any doubts at all don't buy it. There are plenty more second hand cars about in really nice condition. Don't rush your decision.
