netgear to virign modem?

hi, i need to connect a netgear router, to a virgin media router, (to extend the range), i have tryed connectin both via erthnet cable and then connecting laptop to the netgear via another erthnet cable, it says connected, but wont show internet because of no-connection.is it popssible to get a erthnet to adsl wire? as there is no connections on the virgin modem except the 4 erthnet ones and the connetion for the virgin cable. any help plz.

BTW, my answer has assumed that you don't actually have just a modem but a Virgin Router. (Modems don't have four Ethernet ports.)

First of all you CANNOT connect it via the ADSL socket on the Netgear, it MUST be via one of the Netgear's Ethernet Sockets. Here's how to get it working.

Connect to the Netgear via Ethernet, open a browser and go to 192.168.0.1. Login as admin, password= password. Now switch of the Netgear's DHCP server. Before you leave, give the Netgear a new IP address (but not one that is within the virgin's DHCP Pool) so that you can talk to it later.

Now connect the Netgear to the Virgin via Ethernet and Bob's you uncle.
