not sure what model your talking about but if its from 2000 -2006 there is a locking knob at the left hand side of the door inner.
does the remote pad pad work?
can you hear the motor in the door working?
try getting someone to push the rear end of the sliding door while you use the remote pad,that where the contact are that operate the motor they might not be touching especially if the door is damaged.
