you cheeky bugger good job i like you nick, thot u said am not an old git like u ?modern alarms as i said had shop in glasgow, sold outdated bbc stuff, they used to tour old shops in glasgow take bell boxes and not even clean them, just sell them as recon,i still have vivid mems of the shop, the alarm box was a bit of crap, just a triac if you know what that is,like a diode, but when it gets a gate trigger,it passes current till the power is removed,(reset) by key,a first year student could make it now

Wow GTS you are an old git, lol, In 44 with 27 years in the industry, My God Acorn must be on a Zimmer, Good memories,
I take it Modern was bought out by ADT, I hear a very strong rumour about them, i wont type it out just in case,

Nick, June 2011
and as far as modern alarms are concerned,i remember they had a shop in sauchiehall st in glasgow, they used to sell what they laughingly called recondition bell boxes,(they nicked em of old shops)and they sold a white box with a triac encapsulated as an alarm panel,
yes a great company,i can still see it,you remove the lid and what do you see?a little epoxy box with leads going to a terminal block,i used to make them up for kids to play with, and if mem serves, they charged £25.for it,how times have changed, most alarm equipment now is made in china, taiwan, egypt even israel,at least they work!!!

you make me laugh nick,am 57,37 years in trade,am glad then that you guys are a LOT older than me,!!as the song says.you make me feel so young.:-)i was using scantronic panels before they became scantronic.
so nick,go patronise some one else.

Oh dear Acorn i feel old when Modern Alarms are mentioned, with their Black Ford Escort's and that lovely gold Chain as a logo.
Ive just bought a brand new 3200 from Ebay because its a 9800+ as a spare for my own.
GTS your not an old git like us,
The early Scantronic Panels are just fantastic,
The 9651 is a great panel, but the build quality of the 9800 is far better, Thats China for you.

Nick, June 2011
Now don't you start, I worked for Modern Alarms for abt 10yrs, long before ADT came along, I can assure you the information I gave is true.

Want to see some original Modern Alarms Series Manuals, I've got originals, both Inst & User of all the 'Series' panels mentioned, & more?

M/A re-badged almost everything they could, especially control panels

acorn, June 2011
,adt fitted these panels, the may have rebadged them as the 3200,as the guy said, you may be able to
repair the rubber membrane,do not rough the surface up,but you can buy a silver solution that you can coat the
pcb and rubber membrane with, you can obtain it from rs components, or cpc.com.failing that, you can buy the new version, the 9651,8 zone panel c/w keypad for about £49 .from cpc dont forget to replace the 7 amp battery too

Sounds like the good old scantronic 9800, keypad now obsolete. So time for a new panel or or you can try and clean the keypad by using so ipa fluid and roughing up the rubber keys to get a bit more life from it before its replaced.
Failing that a look on ebay may help look for a scantronic 9800 keypad

TomTv, June 2011
and dont be as daft and say modern, thats the name of the alarm company

gts, June 2011
make of panel would be a help ,dope
