fuel pump bearings starting to deteriorate, small metal filings are attracted to the shut off solenoid which is magnetic and jambs the solenoid.

Best check that the wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid hasn't been dislodged in the alternator fitting frenzy. And check the solenoid is working ok. it should make a clicking sound when battery power is applied and removed. If its been bashed, it may no longer be working right.
