Vauxhall Astra 2000 model, central locking remote problem?
The instruction on how to re-synchronise the key in the ignition worked great for me. Thanks. However, not for long. When I came back to open my car in the morning the remote key stopped working. Is the battery too weak and need replacing? But the light is still coming ON fine.
Can I replace the battery myself or is there a special procedure involved, which would involve a Vauxhall dealer?
Had my astra 2002 model for 5 years central locking never worked tried new batteries just came across this forum and wow central locking now works on both keys
WELL CHUFFED

Where can I get a spare remote fob from?
BERNARD, January 2013
One thing I would add to the advice about re-syncing below is:
Have the door open while you turn the to position II !
Pressing the lock / unlock button should then do the resync as outlined in many of the posts below, and it worked fine for me after that.
Took me a while to figure out that the door had to be open though. Didn't work with the door closed.

Thanks a million. So simple, a child could do it. And I have!

Men I was nearly taking in my car to the GM dealers, they would have charged me an arm and a leg. My Key fob stopped working battery was weak changed it, but still Key remote entry was not working. Opening doors manually was putting me off, but finally googled and landed here. I used the solution provided above, on my Opel Astra of turning key to position II and then holding lock button for a while which then locked and unlocked the car, then removed key and boy it worked fine. Thanks everyone..am really thankful.

Another big thank you from yet another frustrated and confused Astra owner. Worked fine for my W reg car. Took me ages to find the procedure within this category though. Here it is, just for ease of reference. Turn the key to position II the stop just before the starter motor turns, when the panel display lights up. Then press the one of the lock or unlock button. You should hear the doors locking then unlocking. If nothing happens then try again but keep an eye on the diode to see if it lights up. If it doesn't then batter is week and you need to replace it. It is dead easy see the owners manual. Battery must be changed within a minute or the key will need to be synchronised as above after battery change.

do it yourself and you will safe 65.00

you guys are awsome was gonna pay to fix it but just done sync thing and its worked. Love you all!!!
daisy, July 2009
I concur with the answers below - my 2001 Holden (Australian version of Vauxhall) Astra's central locking stopped working. So I synchronised as others have instructed below and it worked then stopped. So I changed the battery, padded the inside of the fob with some tissue paper to prevent a loose connection, re-sychronised the key and haven't had a problem since. So glad I was bored and google searched this. I was going to pay my mechanic to fix it! :)

Marek, May 2009
remove the part the battery is on and reclip it on to the green bottom part of remote, the small pins aint pressing properly on to the remotes green board, clip it back on to the green board, apply some lock tight glue to the side of battery clip, leave to dry then clip the remote all back together, the problem was the battery pins were not touching the green board properly, the above definetly worked for Me, still is 5 months later.

try checking the water sensor in the bottom of the radiator,if your water light is on the car thinks there is no water and will not start,it just happened to my friend tonite
cheerfulldwarf, January 2008
You can re-programme your key after changing the battery by inserting the key into the ignition and switch on ( dont start the engine). Press the unlock button on key for 3 seconds and you'll here the door locks activate. Switch off and remove the key.
The door will now lock and unlock using remote button
Zozzer, October 2007
same happened to me and i can vouch that the answers above solved the problem....thanks to both
bob mellor, October 2007
Hi had the same problem with a friends car today, its the battery is low, the memory only lasts 3 mins and then the key needs to be re-synced with the car. Using a small screwdriver on the back of the key insert into the hole and push towards the blade, this will remove the blade part of the key from the control part. pull apart the body to reveal the battery compartment, be carefull when prising the battery as the contacts are very weak and have a tendency to snap, i use a small screwdriver and holding the battery i gently prise the battery out between the 2 lugs, replace the battery and then re-sync to car by inserting into ignition and turning to II press the button on remote, doors will lock and unlock, key done
stu, February 2007
Jay, the chances are that the key needs to be sychronised again. It happens from time to time if the batter contacts are a bit dodgy in the key fob. Contacts can break or become loose.
Try syncing it first. Turn the key to position II the stop just before the starter motor turns 9ie all panel display lights up. then press the one of the lock or unlock button. Hope that helps
