1.8 v reg turbo diesal escort does this have a separate gear box oil? ?

My gears are very stiff in my escort and thought that by topping up the oil in the engine this might help but it hasn't. Apart from power steering fluid I can't see anywhere obvious that might be for gear box oil and as I don't have the owners manual I'm a bit stuck can anyone help please

gearbox oil level/filler plug is on front of gearbox near to reversing light switch.if gears can be engaged ok,with engine switched off, then your clutch may be at fault. poss causes are; clutch arm lever fractured, clutch ratchet slipping, clutch ratchet adjuster broken or clutch plate spring broken or dislodged.
