gilera dna 50 cdi unit?

what does a cdi unit do? and why do people say change it if you want you bike to go faster.
david, September 2006
There is no need to change the cdi unit on the bike as it poses no form of restriction even to the revs, if changing it increases engine revs it would be stupid to do, it would only red line the bike and cause alot of engine wear fast, to the cylinder and crank. The main restriction on revs is the weight of the rollers and clutch contra spring. If you want more speed, change exhaust and jets/air filter to add bhp, and add a big bore kit, this way you can add more power but the bike will still rev the same, the power will give you better acceleration and power to overcome your weight and wind increasing top speed.

they say change it because the standard one limits the revs so it will go faster with an unlimited revving cdi unit on it ,again check ve.uk out online
