Zanussi jetstream 1600 problem?

The machine will not go into any programme. When it is switched on and set it just makes a humming noise and does nothing. The machine is a Zanussi jetstream 1600 about three years old.

is the water switched on and make sure the inlet hose isn't kinked at the back of the machine.
