will start with what you may have already done ,..if your getting a transmission warning and loose of gears ,then ,check the air tank that feeds the as-tronic for water ,if ok fit a drain tap if not already fitted ..if there was water then check condition of the APU cartridge ,as the only place the water can come from is via the APU..if you are getting a harsh gear engagement ,and the truck takes of like a ferrari in a grand prix start ,it is likely to be the clutch plate sticking on the input splines ,hence it can't feed in progressively as you throttle up ,but sticks then slams in ..on the DAF side with early AS TRONICS ,the release arm would stick on it's pivot .you could remove the release arm with the box in place and reamer out the bush the pivot goes through ,even running a blade round the edge of the seals freed it off...there is a modified release arm out which has rollers on it ...for the time it takes to remove the box and check the input splines ,also if it's still on it's original clutch it's probably due renewal..let us know how you get on
