alarm system gardtec 360/580?

when the system is armed and I use the hot water in the bathroom which is unset, the alarm starts to ring.

thats what i,ve always said ,long as you got it sorted, all that counts

or are you saying it induced a short between the cores?

gts, July 2011
Yes the cable had melted. What I meant was that the fuse did not blow. - repaired and rerouted said cable and all ok now. Just shows that electricians should leave the alarms to the alarm engineers!

if it caused a short,it must have melted the cable, you dont get a short between two insulated cores,or do the laws of physics not work in that job?

gts, July 2011
Not So Mr GTS. The site I attended caused the SAB to ring when the hot water came on. this heated the cable and put a short from the bell trigger and the 0V wire. We were convinced it was the bell until we found it did it when the customer took a shower. We repaired the cable and moved it away from the pipework - The last time I allowed the sparky to run our cables as a favour.

not to mention a fire risk

if that was the case it would have blown a fuse,(melted cables)

Sounds like a cable/cables may have been run alongside the hot water pipes when the system was installed. Have a word with the company that installed it. If you find this is the case I'd get the installer to foot the bill to repair it. I had this with a customer a while back. and found electricians had run the bell cable across a hot pipe.
