Problem with spin cycle?

I have a top loading GE washing machine that is about 5 years old (Model: WNSE4200A0WW). It works great, except...

After draining it tries to enter the spin cycle. At this point something makes a loud clicking noise, causing the lights in the house to flash and eventually blow the breaker. BUT, sometimes it will spin the entire cycle with no problems. Sometimes it is also possible to force it into the spin cycle by repeatedly stopping and starting it. Agitates, fills, drains, etc. just fine.

Any ideas on what is causing this? How to fix it? Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you!

I have the exact same problem with my GE profile top loading washer. Did you ever find a solution?
