Renault Megane 2004 1.4 16V - Oil Change?

Hi all,

My girlfriend has a Renault Megane 1.4 16 Valve (2004 UK Model), and typical of a women (sorry couldn't resist) she had lost the owners manual. The car needs an oil change and I am wondering if anyone could provide me with a step-by-step guide of doing it for this model.

Also will the Engine Management System automatically detect a new oil change, thus eliminating the irritating "Oil Change Required" messages displayed on the console, or would this need to be reset by an authorised Renault service centre.

Thanks in advance for any replies
Best Regards
Mick

Hi. I have an 04 1.4 megane. To reset CHANGE OIL SOON & stop red spanner flashing. Start the car as soon as the C.O.S lights up press reset button (side of rev counter) keep it pressed untill it flashes a few time & 18000 miles lights up. Hope this helps.

Hi Mate,
I struggled myself but when I took more time to look into it it was quite simple. First you need to take the cover from the bottom, by use no 10 spanner (don't try to unscrew the funny shape screws on the edge of the cover). Then you need to undo either side by pulling them towards the centre with care. The actual screw for the oil is a 8mm that you can find at Halfords for £4. The filter is a bit tricky to unscrew as it is very narrow but you should be able to manage it. Best of luck!

Is this sorted now? I can't help on the changing the oil side, but I on the Change Oil Soon message I can. This is the service interval indicator - I reset mine by pressing and holding the odometer resent button when the change oil soon shows straight after starting the engine up, and then cycle through the computer views using the button the end of the right hand stalk
