when i turn on my sidelights the dashboard lights go out can someone please help

if you use your car for short journeys on a regular basis you can get a build up of a creamy substance showing on the underside of your filler cap and your dipstick,this can also build up inside breather tubing etc.another possability is water leak into the engine,blown cylinder head gasket.are you loosing water from your cooling system?drain your oil off and check for water and white/yellow sludge.
