Mitsubishi Pajero 2800 TD Automatic 1995?

Do I need to change the filter in the automatic gearbox or clean the existing mesh filter when I change the ATF. Is Dexron 11 suitable for the ATF.

If the mesh needs cleaning then something inside is failing and will continue to deteriate. Changing the fluid will not stop this. D11 is fine.
