pawl and ratchet?

what is the pawl and ratchet on my 1996 ford transit clutch
david, August 2011
have a look up the side of the clutch pedal arm, if you have the adjustable type you'll see a 6mm thread hanging down vertically with an M10 nut on it, wind the nut upwards to take up slack, try about 5 threads first and see if that makes a difference. The clutch 'bite point' will be higher too. When the ratchet type wear, the pedal goes straight to the floor.

it forms the self adjusting mechanism for clutch cable.or it might be handbrake lever mechanism?
