how do i bleed the fuel system on my deisel ford tractor?

I have just recently purchased a ford tractor, and mechanics is all new to me, how do i bleed the fuel system after it has had a filter change?

1. make sure you've got diesel.
2. slacken off bleed screws on fuel filters
3. pump fuel til fuel comes out of fuel filters.
4. tighten bleed screws.

First of all, once you have your new filter on, bleed the fuel to the filter by the lift pump i.e. undo a small screw on top of the filter, lift the lift pump up and down until no fuel comes out with no bubbles. Once you have done this go to the fuel pump, if it is a rotary pump there will be a 8 mm bolt halfway down the pump, undo this and turn the engine over until clear fuel comes out. Do the bolt back up. Your tractor should start but if not undo the first injector pipe as it goes onto the injector and turn the tractor over until it starts, the do the pipe up. If it isn't a rotary pump its basically the same answer but it will have a 1/2 inch bolt on the side of the pump, undo this and do the same as before. Hope this helps. Regards Rich.
