someone is selling a washing machine which has a broken heating element. I just wondered how important this is with regards to washing as many machines wash in cold water now for economical reasons anyway?

about 30c is the coldest wash...the machine will fill with cold water then slosh about heating the water before continuing with the wash program...yours will never get warm (cos the element is broken) and will never finish its program. So don't buy it unless you will be getting the element fixed.
