Singer 538 Pedal?

Hi hope you can help me, i have a singer 538 sewing machine, when i press the pedal it is smoking and machine is running by itself when switched on, any idea on how i can fix this? Many Thanks

no need to replace,manufacturers have to put it in by telecommunication law. glad to be of help

Hello I have removed the square bit which had gone brown (cut the wire either side), it now works fine! Should this piece be replaced?? Many thanks for ur help!! 

open pedal and locate suppressor(small round or sqaure thing with 2 wires).remove and check again.if problem persist replace with universal pedal
