2004 Peugeot 307CC Petrol. Temperature gauge shooting up to red?

Can anyone help - I drove my 2004 peugeot 307cc petrol car a short distance today when the temparature gauge suddenly shot up over 95 and then into the red - there was no warning and there is plenty of water. Is the car safe to drive when the gauge shows red - I live in very rural area and rely heavily on my car as bus service is near non existent.

I am having same problem 307 cc 2006 the Mechanic told me it is normal when you stuck in the traffic but when you drive it stays on 90.

Get it sorted. If it overheats you risk blowing the head gasket or worse. Then you WILL be inconvenienced, and you'll have a really big bill to get it repaired.

If the water level is fine then is the radiator cooling fan cutting in? If you don't know how to check it out take it to your Peugeot specialist. Could be a relay.
