Re Dishlex 150HD dishwasher - Removal of 'knob' on rotary controller unit?

Can anyone please advise me how to remove the 'knob' of the rotary controller unit? - so I can repair/replace it, following it having been 'bored out' when a visitor force-turned it without first pressing it in to disconnect it and to turn off the unit. Appreciate any available advise/wisdom. Thanks.

The knob pulls directly off the controller's shaft. This needs a large amount of force, as there is a etaining metal spring internal to the knob which engages a depression at the end of the shaft. Ensure you pull the knob off slowly, evenly and without bending it sideways.
