How To Straighten A Tangled Corded Telephone?

Have an old BT phone and the cord is twisted badly....good working order and don't want to replace it. Any known way to untwist it without damaging the 'cord' or telephone connection?

Thanks for the answer - I'll give it a go..Sure hope this isn't a wind up! Will have to wear gloves so not to get burnt! Have you tried this or know of some one that did it?

Lower the cord only into a bowl of very hot (almost boiling)and ease into its original condition.
Gently lift it out without stretching the cord and lower into a bowl of cold water for at least 3/4 minutes.
