overheating?

hi ted thanks but i did`nt know you could alter the timing on 2 stroke engines, how do you do it.
cheers.

cheers ted, ive checked the plug and its a darkish brown, looked down the plug hole and theres hardley any soot on the piston top.
ive had the timing checked and its all fine, dont no what to do know. think ill sell it and get a later one.

Hi, i wouldn't use that bike shop if they don't know the basics of plug grades, for example a B7ES is hotter than a B8ES but if the engine is tuned nicely you shouldn't need to change grades to cure a 'problem', such as adjusting the needle height to cure that sooty plug! but in your case i think you need to beg, steal or borrow a strobe lamp to check the timing if that's OK then strip your head & barrel to investigate, all the best.

yes, it came as a full kit everything for the top end. did i mention it is a steel barrel. the reason its been changed , the mian bearings had broken up and i thought it would be better for the bike.
i got told by the bike shop that the plug range is the lower the number the cooler running it is. by the way ive rebuilt the full engine.

Hi, timing's factory set, but if the alternator rotor turns on the crankshaft taper for whatever reason that will affect the running possibly causing pinking(tinkling noise) but i think yours is more serious than that like piston slap, was the new piston matched to the new bore?
