Clutch on a kawasaki klf 400?

When I put the quad into gear it shoots forward straightaway and it's stiff to pull back to neutral or to change up. I've adjusted it according to the manual. What else can I try ? Thanks Phil

Hi Phil, thanks for letting me know, i hold my hand up to that one! but the same goes about working on the clutch assembly if you have to go that far.

There is no clutch lever and cable Ted its an agricultural quad.

non-nylon coated clutch cable can be oiled, sounds like a badly dragging clutch, ignore the manual on this one and adjust up the clutch free play more to see if that frees the plates but not so much that you get clutch slip, if not check the plates for distortion and wear in the clutch basket grooves, not sure if this bike has a push rod in the clutch, this may be worn/damaged therefore not giving the correct lift.
