the plug says 13amp the broken fuse i took out was a 3 amp does it matter which size?

i =p/v take the power of machine measured in watts, divide this by 240 volts, this gives the amperage of machine, this will be the size of fuse protection required in the mains plug
example 400w = 1.6667 A nearest BS 1362 fuse is a 3A
240v
